What do I mean when I say “ditch & switch”?
Oftentimes when I’m talking about Young Living’s Loyalty Rewards program I say, “it’s the best way to ditch & switch.” Have you ever wondered what that means?
Basically, it means to DITCH the toxic products in your home and what you use in everyday life and SWITCH to non-toxic (low toxic). It sounds simple, but it can be more complicated than you think. Mostly because of the products that are sold in most stores (at least in the US). You would think that the everyday household cleaners, beauty items, and foods that we eat are free of things that can be extremely harmful to our health. But the reality is, they’re not. The regulations for these products are simply lacking and while I don’t want to focus on that in this post, I do think it’s important for us to realize that. Just because the product is sold at the store, doesn’t mean it’s safe for us to use or consume. Just because the label says it’s “green” or “all-natural”, doesn’t mean it is (that’s called greenwashing…another subject for another day). SO, what can we do about it?
It doesn’t have to be overwhelming
Stores don’t make it easy to know if a product is safe for use or consumption but we still have control over what we bring into our homes. The most important thing we can do is get into the habit of looking at the ingredients in everything we buy. At first, this might feel like a task. And sometimes we don’t want to have to think about these things. But trust me, over time you will learn what is truly clean and what isn’t and that will be one of the best things you can do for you and your family’s long-term health.
Here’s a little trick: There are companies out there who do an amazing job at educating us and helping us to learn what is safe and what isn’t. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is my favorite and their healthy living app is extremely useful when it comes to household and beauty products. They have rated the most commonly sold items in stores and tell you which ingredients are good or bad. They’ve done the work for us so it’s super easy! In the app store, search “EWG” and the healthy living app will come up.
Where do I start?
Start with what you are currently using every day. And make it a goal to switch out what you now know is not so good for you (look it up in the EWG app or search the ingredients to learn). My motto is always “go slow!” Things like your makeup, cleaners, shampoo/conditioner, body wash/soap, perfumes, dish soap, laundry detergent, candles, etc. All of these items are known to have damaging ingredients. Things that affect our hormones, endocrine system, limbic system, and the like. There are a lot of toxins in our environment we have no control over, but we do have control over what we decide to use. So start with a few items as your budget allows, and just keep going little by little until you’ve switched.
And this brings us to….
Why I absolutely love Young Living products and their Loyalty Rewards program.
YL sells way more than just essential oils. They offer cleaning products, supplements (the best!), hair care, skin care, weight management, dental care, sleep support, laundry care, and more!
And these products are TRULY clean! They taste good, smell good, look good, and feel good and you can use them all knowing that what you’re using isn’t harmful to your health. It’s a one-stop-shop and you can rest assured that you’re getting quality, top-notch products. You’re already buying these items at Target…so why not switch to YL and have them delivered to you. Win win!
PLUS, if you ditch and switch using their Loyalty Rewards program you earn points back to continue the process throughout your home. Over time, up to 25% back, actually. I don’t know of another loyalty program that offers that percentage back…so generous!
