We are Homeschooling our kids for kindergarten and 2nd grade. I’ve talked about this before but this is what we landed on for this year. We will keep you up to date on how we like it.
Kindergarten curriculum- Starr education is the way to go. She holds live classes each week and has short lessons each day to walk you through the printouts and manipulative for each subject. She currently does playschool-1st grade (2023) but will be adding a grade a year to her school. So if your kid attends 1st grade 23-34 school year you have the option of continuing on to 2nd grade with them next year. Here is her IG page @starrplayschool.
2nd grade- We are doing a few different curriculums and that’s the perk to homeschool with your kids. You can work at the pace of your kid and pick and choose what you think is best for them. We are doing Singapore math, CIE for science, social studies, and the live classes, and the good and the beautiful for reading, writing, and spelling.
Singapore math is great if you subscribe to the video lessons for the year and they will definitely help you to understand how they want you to teach your kid. It may seem intimidating at first because it’s a lot of books but if your kid loves math this just might be the curriculum for them to be challenged with and for you as a parent.
CIE- My son loves the live classes, it’s nice for him to be involved and the teachers are really awesome. Personally, the main subject lessons are pretty easy and quick for Oakley/2nd grade but we just started so we will see how the rest of the year goes. I also find myself YouTubing some extra videos on the body systems or science/social studies that were covered in the lessons to explain the topic a little more if I need or want.
The good and the beautiful- We haven’t officially started this yet but we think it will be a good fit. Oak loves to write and we want something that will be a little more challenging. We are going to tweak the lesson a bit for what we are comfortable with as well. We are also looking into adding this as an extra if he wants to.
Who doesn’t like a pen pal? This can help him write, think of others, and have conversations. Plus it’s always exciting to get something in the mail.
Ok so that’s what we are doing this year and I’ll keep you up to date on how it goes and if we change it up as the school year continues. Here are some of my favorite printouts, tools, Montessori toys, and so on at the bottom of this post.
