Bridging the gap
Statistics show that on average, 70-80% of people in the US take some form of supplements daily. Why? Our bodies need a lot of nutrients to run at an optimal level. Ideally, we would get those nutrients from the food we eat but the fact is, most of us don’t. Not only has commercialized farming reduced the quality of our food, but our own dietary choices limit the number of nutrients we receive on a daily basis. Supplements are a great way to bridge that gap! We don’t supplement to replace a healthy diet, we supplement to fill in where our diet might be lacking.
How do we know what vitamins to take?
The best way to know is to get a blood test. That will tell you your nutrient deficiencies and give you an idea of where to start. Just ask your doctor to test you for nutrient deficiencies or there are many companies out there that offer at-home testing kits. Either way, knowing your test results will help tremendously in formulating a game plan. That being said, there are common vitamin deficiencies that most people need to supplement for, and a lot of times we can tell what our body needs if we’re in tune with it. For example, studies show that MOST people are deficient in vitamin D. Most need help in improving their gut health…hello probiotics. And a large number of people take B vitamins for energy…who doesn’t need more of that?
Does it matter what brand I buy?
YES! Yes yes yes. I cannot state that enough. Quality matters! If you’re not absorbing your vitamins then it’s really just a waste of money and your body won’t benefit. If you’re doing this for your health then making sure your body is actually using these nutrients should be the priority, right? Bioavailability is the term used to describe how much your body is absorbing and using the nutrient. So whatever company you choose to purchase from, make sure their products have high bioavailability markers. And also keep in mind how the supplements are made. A lot of companies sell supplements that are synthetic (not natural!) and contain harmful flavors, colors, artificial dyes, preservatives, and sweeteners.
Why I choose Young Living (and yes I do use other high-quality brands)!
This is why I LOVE Young Living supplements. The difference in these supplements is that essential oils are included to increase their bioavailability. For instance, before putting essential oils into Young Living’s Multigreens supplement, there was 42% blood absorption in 24 hours. After adding EOs into the formula, blood absorption increased to 86% in one hour! EOs help increase the assimilation of other nutrients on a cellular level. Our cells are TINY and in order for our intestines to properly digest and USE what we ingest, the nutrients have to be super tiny. Tiny enough that they move from our gut walls into our bloodstream where our body then puts them to good use. Essential oils allow this to happen! It’s truly amazing!!
Young Living currently sells nearly 50 different types of vitamins and supplements that help to support all of your body systems. If you’re needing something specific, they most likely have it!
